each county’s Board of Equalization to insure properties within the county
are appropriately assessed annually. This insures the assessed market
value is reflected by an accurate description of the property assessed.
That the appraisal is based on supportable market data. This can only be done when a complete physical inspection
of properties is completed on a reasonably regular basis. The State Tax
Commission recommends each property be re-assessed every fifth year. Assyria
Township has historically, as many townships, not performed regular property
re-assessments. In an effort to be proactive with the State Tax
Commission’s effort to equalize the property tax burden on Michigan property
owners, Assyria Township is in the process of assessing all properties that
have not been assessed within the last five years. Henceforth, in
addition to “time of sale” assessments, all properties within Assyria
Township will be re-assessed about every fiveyears. |
